The purpose of this paper is to analyse some determinants of health problems decurrent from the implantation of dams in Amazonia, taking the Tucurui Dam as a point of reference, wich is located in Para State, Brazil. This article certainly does not only discuss different conceptions about the helth-ilness process, but also discribe the stages of dams implantations emphasizing some risks to people’s health. The author has finally come into conclusion that, the electric sector must not deteriorate the sanitary picture, as well as investments should be promoted during every stage of the projects construction in order to decrease the deleterious effects on health population.
