Abstract

This is an ethnographic study carried out among small cattle farmers and traditional fishermen, about the beginning of the Jenipapo settlement, near Lake Arari, Marajó Island. Small cattle farmers, also named “heirs”, began to develop traditional fishing when extensive cattle breeding became increasingly difficult in extensive areas. The activity is carried out by “teams” and follows rules of permits, kinship, and strategic use of resources.
