Abstract

While the landscapes are frequently been considered as a natural patrimony, the wetlandsareas and rivers just recently started to be considered in the same way. The growing interest for wetlands is a result of the importance of these ecosystems to assure the supply of water and the reproduction of life adjusted to river seasonality fl uctuation. Considered as a connection between the Platina and Amazon watershed, the Pantanal suffer high pressure on the edges due to the expansion of agribusiness activities, mining and hydrovias. With an area of 138.183 km2 this wetland expresses diversity and singularity. In the present analysis Pantanal was a special area studied under the Ramsar convention. It was used UNESCO, UICN, and Brazilian Environmental Ministry reports to understand the conservation process. The construction of institution that strength an effective structure of governance with more participation is the largest challenge.
