About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Amazônia - Science and Mathematics Education Journal (Amaz RECM) is published biannually, edited by the Postgraduate Program in Science and Mathematics Education of the Institute of Mathematical and Scientific Education (IEMCI) of the Federal University of Pará. Aimed at the publication of research articles on teacher education and teaching and learning processes in the areas of Science Education (Biology, Physics, and Chemistry), Mathematics Education and Environmental Education. The journal publishes original and unpublished manuscripts in Portuguese, Spanish and English, previously peer-reviewed by ad-hoc reviewers of the journal. There are no fees for submission, processing, evaluation, and publication of manuscripts.

This journal offers immediate free access to its content, following the principle that providing free scientific knowledge to the public provides greater global democratization of knowledge.
Ethics and malpractices statement
The publisher of the Federal University of Pará and the editors of Amaz RECM are committed to meet and maintain ethical standards in the assessment process and publication of the articles. Amaz RECM ethics and malpractices avoidance are statements of COPE´s Best Practices Guidelines for journal editors. It is necessary to agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior for all parts involved in the act of publishing: the authors, editors, editorial board, reviewers and the publisher.
Editors' Responsibilities
The editors of Amaz RECM commit to:
Act in an objective and fair manner, avoiding any type of religious discrimination, political, social, gender, sexual orientation or beliefs of the authors.
Ensure that all information presented in the submitted manuscript is kept confidential to any person other than the reviewers and editorial board of the magazine.
Consider only the academic merit for publishing articles, evaluating blind assessments by ad hoc reviewers, even in special editions.
In the case of detection or suspicion of plagiarism, redundant (dual publication), fabricated data, conflicts of interest or ethical problems (eg, violation of protected patents, experiments with animals or humans without proper ethical rigor), before or after publishing the manuscripts, the editors of Amaz RECM will take measures in accordance with the guidelines recommended by the Ethics Committee Publications (COPE), providing opportunity for authors to respond to any complaints/reports, keeping all papers filed for each case.
Be Always willing to publish corrections, clarifications or retractions when necessary.
Reviewers' Responsibilities
By agreeing to act as the reviewer Amaz RECM employees are committed to:
Evaluate the manuscripts objectively and fairly. If so, contribute to improving the quality of the published article, indicating objectively any necessary revisions, within the set deadlines.
Maintain confidentiality and not appropriate and/or disclose all or part of any information provided by the publisher or author.
Report to the editor the detection of any ethical problems (plagiarism, redundancy, fabricated data etc.).
In event of potential conflicts of interest with the authors of a manuscript received, inform the editor and refrain from the same review.
Authors' Responsibilities
By submitting their manuscripts to Amaz RECM authors commit to:
Ensure that the submitted manuscript content is original, properly citing any information reproduced from other sources.
Ensure the manuscript was not submitted simultaneously to other journals.
When the research involves experimentation with humans and animals, the authors must meet the requirements of Resolution 466 of December 12, 2012, the National Health Council / Brazil (available at http://conselho.saude.gov.br/resolucoes/2012/466_english.pdf, including information on the opinion of the Research Ethics Committee of the institutions involved).
Ensure that there isn’t a conflict of interest between the paper’s authors when more than one effectively contributed to the manuscript’s preparation.
Keeping research data mentioned in the manuscript properly organized, recorded and stored, providing access to them when requested by editors or reviewers or attach them as supplementary documents in the journal publishing system.
Cooperate with the editor to identify any publication errors, requesting the publication of errata, addenda or rectification, if applicable.
Publishers' Responsibilities
Both members of the editorial committee of Amaz RECM as the publisher of the Federal University of Pará should ensure that good practices are maintained in accordance with the above standards.
Procedures for dealing with suspected misconduct
To detect possible plagiarism, all manuscripts submitted to Amaz RECM will be analyzed by anti-plagiarism software, like CopySpider© and Plagiarisma©. If there’s a suspect of plagiarism incident, the evaluation process will be stopped and the authors will be asked to provide clarification.
Misconduct and unethical behavior like plagiarism, redundant (dual publication), fabricated data, conflicts of interest or ethical problems (for example, violation of protected patents, experiments with animals or humans without due to ethical rigor) can be identified and brought the attention of the editor and publisher at any time by anyone.
Who wants to inform the editor or publisher of such conduct shall provide sufficient information and evidence for an investigation to be initiated. All claims must be taken seriously and treated in the same way until a decision or final conclusion is reached.
In a case of detection of a suspicious misconduct, before or after the publication of manuscripts, the editors of Amaz RECM will take measures in accordance with the guidelines recommended by the Committee Publications Ethics (COPE), available at https://publicationethics.org/files/Full set of English flowcharts_9Nov2016.pdf
If proven, plagiarism, redundancy, fabricated data, conflicts of interest or ethical problems in any article, the Federal University of Pará and Amaz RECM are exempt from any liability and the authors will be subject to all legal penalties provided by law, burden of irregularities committed by them.
In case of a misconduct detection, depending on the type and severity of the case, the authors may suffer one or more of the following penalties:
be formally cleared of any misunderstandings that incurred misconduct.
To be mentioned in a formal or editorial warning in the magazine detailing misconduct.
To be formally reported to the funding agency leadership of the author misconduct.
Be prevented from submitting new manuscripts to the journal.
Have formally reported to a professional organization or higher authority for further investigation and action.
