Abstract

In the 1990s, multicultural education policies became important forms of diversity recognition in Brazil, which is still seen as a problem in educational institutions, even though cultural values are being increasingly relevant in understanding the socio-cultural differences in the school. In this paper, we contextualize the ways of dealing with diversity and reflect on the place of anthropology in dialogue with education, from two experiences of teacher training which took place in Pernambuco, showing difficulties in dealing with diversity. Finally, we point out relevant issues in the teacher training process. Keywords: education, multiculturalism, cultural diversity.
