Abstract

ABSTRACT: Quintals exercise an important role in the food security of family farmers, since most species are used for food as well as in folk medicine. The study was carried out in the rural community of Santa Luzia do Induá located 13 km from Capitão Poço, located on the margins of Pa 252, in the northeastern region of Para. During the month of May 2015, a field survey was carried out in 70 quintals of the community, together with the consent of the owners of each yard, where the research was initiated. It was possible to analyze during the research that a part of the quintals possess a wide variety of fruit tree species, thus totaling 2,621 individuals. Farmers in this community use these fruit species for their own consumption (79%), in addition to selling the surplus production to help with income composition. Food safety is also due to the use of non-representative agricultural pesticides in these yards, thus producing food in quality and quantity necessary to maintain a balanced diet with healthier foods, thus reflecting on improving the quality of life and longevity of farmers. It has been noticed that more than 70% of the farms are in the range of 102 to 1026.75 m². It was also noticed that the coconut tree was present in 55 of the 70 quintals visited, followed by the açaizeiro 49 quintals and lemon tree with 43 quintals. However, it can be concluded that the verified quintals present a great range of fruit tree species, with the açai tree having the greatest presence of plants in the backyards.KEYWORDS: Family farmers, Fruit species, Food varieties.
